Victoria is located in the heart of the Golden Crescent of South Texas with a diverse population of about 67,000 and encompassing an area of approximately 34 square miles.  With major highways 77, 59, 87, and the future Interstate 69 all intersecting in Victoria, and with a prime position along the NAFTA Corridor, the City is known as “The Crossroads of South Texas.” 

The officers with the Victoria Police Department are proud of the department’s strong heritage for providing quality police service for their community, and the new Police Chief, who reports directly to the City Manager, will uphold those standards with a deep sense of duty and respect for the residents of Victoria. The City of Victoria seeks a committed, decisive, and service-oriented Police Chief who will lead the department with passion, integrity, and vision. 

The selected candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, police administration, public administration, business administration or related field. Ten (10) years of experience in police work with the immediate past five years of experience in a senior command position is required. The chosen candidate must be a Certified Police Officer in the State of Texas or be able to obtain certification within six months of hire. Advanced law enforcement education and training (FBI NA, SMIP, etc.) are desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the required skills and expertise will be considered. 

Experience as a Chief of Police, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, or a command level officer in a community similar in nature and size (or larger) to Victoria is a plus.  The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000 depending on qualifications.
