SENIOR WRITER POSITION AVAILABLE
AT THE POLICE EXECUTIVE RESEARCH FORUM

The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), a leading national police research institution and membership organization based in Washington, DC, seeks candidates to fill a senior position.

PERF focuses on addressing the most critical issues facing the policing profession today. These include police use of force, violent crime trends and prevention, officer safety, technology issues and cybercrime, youth and gang violence, sexual assault and domestic violence, racial bias in policing, police workforce issues, and community policing. By collaborating with police agencies across the nation, PERF has earned a national reputation for identifying emerging trends and developing promising practices for police practitioners. 


SENIOR WRITER RESPONSIBILITIES:

PERF offers a unique learning environment that examines current policing issues on a national scale. This senior level writer would be primarily responsible for organizing field research findings into complete reports. This individual will work with other PERF staff to identify the goal of each report and the primary focus areas as identified in the scope of work for each project. This individual will then be responsible for synthesizing the research findings into a written deliverable.

The successful candidate will become a key member of PERF with primary responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Coordinating with PERF staff on report deadlines;
  • Analyzing field research;
  • Organizing findings according to the needs of the project; and
  • Drafting final reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must possess a 4-year college degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in the social sciences or a related field or have a commensurate amount of working experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant experience in excellent writing and a knowledge of policing.

Qualified candidates must have excellent verbal, written, organizational, and analytical skills. Candidates need to be proficient with the MS Office suite of applications (in particular Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and should be capable of conducting exhaustive Internet and database searches. Applicants must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to multi-task, and work well individually and in a team setting.
