Police Chief - Plano, Texas

The City of Plano, Texas is recruiting a charismatic, experienced law enforcement professional with exceptional interpersonal skills to be its next Police Chief.  The Plano Police department is the largest law enforcement agency in the northern Dallas metropolitan area serving more than 284,070 residents within a 72-square-mile area. Situated in both Collin and Denton Counties, Plano is located 20 miles north of downtown Dallas along U.S. Highway 75. 

Plano is a home rule city operating under the council-manager form of government.  The City Council consists of the Mayor and seven Council Members.  The Plano Police Department is a progressive organization comprised of an authorized staff of 413 sworn Officers, 178 full-time civilian employees, and 79 civilian part-time employees who are dedicated professionals.

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree is preferred. Ten (10) years of law enforcement experience, including five (5) years as police chief or one rank lower in a city or agency of similar size, is required. A Texas Class C driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire, is required. The selected Police Chief must be eligible for certification by the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education at the intermediate level.
