Nancy Demme

 

Nancy Demme joined PERF in October 2021 as a Senior Principal in PERF’s Center for Applied Research and Management. She assists in conducting management studies, organizational reviews, and scientific studies on police policies and practices. Prior to joining PERF, Ms. Demme worked for Siemens, Germany for seven years in the Legal & Compliance Division as a Compliance Investigator, investigating allegations including fraud, bribery, and anti-trust.

She served for 30 years with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), retiring as a Captain. Montgomery County, Maryland, borders Washington DC and Virginia. The department is a full-service C.A.L.E.A. accredited police agency with roughly 1,950 sworn and civilian employees, serving over a million residents. As a Captain, Ms. Demme commanded the 4th District and directed four divisions: Media, Training, Major Crimes and Special Investigations.

Ms. Demme attained her law degree while working as a patrol officer. Upon graduation she clerked for a Montgomery County Circuit judge and then left the department to practice law for a year, before returning to MCPD. 

She was also an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), where she taught homeland security courses.

Ms. Demme holds a law degree from the University of Maryland, a Master’s Degree in Homeland Security from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor’s Degree in Justice from American University.
