Commander, Memorial Villages Police Department, Texas

Nestled in the western part of metropolitan Houston are six contiguous residential communities known as the Memorial Villages. These include the Villages of Bunker Hill, Piney Point, and Hunters Creek, which are serviced by the Memorial Villages Police Department. This area of Houston is one of the most exclusive locations in all of Texas, known for its excellent schools and stunning estates.  The Memorial Villages Police Department is an independent law enforcement agency established by the City of Bunker Hill Village, Hunters Creek Village, and the City of Piney Point Village in 1977. It is governed by an interlocal agreement between the three partner cities and reports to a Board of Police Commissioners, which consists of two members from each of the three member cities. The Commission appoints a Chief of Police to manage the day-to-day operations of the department.

The Memorial Villages Police Department is truly a unique Police Department, unlike most departments across the country. The MVPD serves a very diverse community right in the heart of one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States. The department is often described as a concierge Police Department. The communities served consist almost exclusively of single-family homes. The Police Commander will manage the Patrol Operations of the department. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, yet down-to-earth experienced public safety professional with extensive knowledge of all aspects of police services and operations.

The Memorial Villages Police Department seeks candidates with a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience, including at least five years as a supervisor/manager with a progressive police agency. Recent experience in a patrol position is preferred. The successful candidate should hold a Texas Peace Officers license. Out-of-state applicants must qualify for a Texas Peace Officers license and should consult the TCOLE website for qualification requirements. Master Peace Officers certification is desired. Applicants possessing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university will receive preference, as will candidates who have completed  senior-level management or leadership programs such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, LEEDA, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP),  or LEMIT.

The Memorial Villages Police Department offers a competitive starting salary of $99,000 to $110,000, depending on qualifications, experience, and education.
