CHIEF OF POLICE

MELROSE, MA

The City of Melrose, MA is seeking a progressive, proactive and community-oriented Police Chief to lead these full-service police department (approx. budget $5.5M) consisting of 49 FT sworn officers, and 5 non-sworn support staff.  With approximately 29,000 residents, Melrose is a quintessential New England community in northeastern Massachusetts.  With easy access to I-93 and I-95, Melrose is just seven miles north of Boston, and minutes from the Atlantic Ocean.  The City is governed by a Mayor and an eleven-member City Council.  A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in law enforcement, criminal justice, management, or related field plus ten years of law enforcement executive management experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, is required.  Must be certified as a Massachusetts full-time police officer or have the ability to receive certification.  FBINA, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), or equivalent executive management training is preferred.  Starting salary range at $160,000 commensurate with qualifications, additional pay incentives may be available.  Excellent benefits.
