           POSITION:                                         LMPD Public Affairs Manager

            SALARY:                                           Negotiable

           

 Examples of Job Duties:

Ensures timely and professional responses to all media-related inquiries

Supervises and reviews activities of the police department’s public affairs personnel

Establishes and maintains working relationships with news media

Draft speeches, press releases, reports, and correspondence

Formulates policies and procedures related to public information activities

Organizes and disseminates information concerning agency activities and operations

Ensures the department’s website is presented professionally with current and accurate data

Identifies steps to ensure a robust presence for the department on social media platforms

Creates and maintains relationships with partnering agencies, community groups, and community members

Prepares reports and correspondence, completes special projects, and maintains records and files

 

 Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree

Four years of communications, public relations, or media experience

 

Desirables:

5+ years’ experience working in journalism, and 5+ years’ experience working in public affairs or other communications related industry

 

Other Minimum Requirements:

Must be of good moral character, with no criminal or felony record inconsistent with the provisions of this paragraph. Unacceptable will be persons who have been convicted of a felony, or who have any criminal action pending against them

Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis. An applicant may be disqualified for multiple misdemeanors, an unacceptable criminal record, or multiple traffic violations

Applicants who have sold marijuana within three years of application, or have bought, sold, or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified

Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening

Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test

Must be on 24-hour call

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Punctual daily attendance to the workplace and is on-call when not in the office
