Police Chief - City of Lago Vista, TX

The Police Chief plans, organizes, and directs Police Department operations, programs, financial, and human resource activities to create and maintain a service-oriented, community, and partnership-focused law enforcement organization. This position develops and maintains a proactive approach to minimizing and resolving community issues by taking actions to enhance safety and public trust.  The Police Department is supported by an annual budget of $2.3 million for FY 2022 and is staffed with 20 sworn officers and 8 non-sworn personnel. Specialized divisions include Administration, Operations, and Support Services. 

The minimum qualifications for this position are a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, police science, or a related field from an accredited college or university, and three to five years of command-level law enforcement experience with progressive responsibility in police administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the needs of the City may be considered. Graduate work or an advanced degree in police administration or public administration is preferred. Graduation from a command leadership program, such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), LEMIT’s Leadership Command College, or a similar program, is highly desired. 

The selected candidate must possess a current and valid Law Enforcement Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), or a similar certification from another state with the ability to obtain TCOLE certification within one year of the date of hire. Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment is required. 

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$145,000 dependent on qualifications and experience. 

While the successful candidate will not be required to establish residency in Lago Vista, please note that residency within the city limits is preferred.
