The La Mesa Police Department (LMPD) has 69 sworn and 31 civilian employees and is supported by a FY20-21 $20.6 million operating budget.  

The ideal candidate will be an inspirational and versatile leader with high standards and uncompromising integrity. He/she will offer an impressive history of establishing relationships and trust within a department and throughout the community. This collaborative leader will also be experienced in effectively leading meaningful change and be well-versed in the various current topics facing the profession. Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and at least ten years increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, including five years in management, is required. Master’s degree is highly desirable.
