Police Chief - City of Glenpool, Oklahoma

Glenpool, Oklahoma, “the town that made Tulsa famous,” was born of an oil gusher in 1905, and it hasn’t stopped growing yet. Located in the greater Tulsa metropolitan area, this dynamo of a city is close enough to Tulsa for easy access to all its amenities, but far enough away for its almost 14,000 residents to enjoy life in a small-town setting. Glenpool is a small, tight-knit community whose continual growth has encouraged longtime residents as well as newcomers to thrive side-by-side in an open and welcoming community.

The Glenpool Police Department is currently comprised of a Chief, Assistant Chief, a Lieutenant, two Detectives, two School Resource Officers, 26 full-time Police Officers, nine full-time Communication Operators, and two full-time Animal Control Officers. The police force has a combined total of more than 151 years of dedication and experience and nearly 20,000 combined hours of continuing education and training. Reporting to the City Manager, the Police Chief is responsible for providing leadership and direction to all Police operations/services within the City by establishing goals and objectives within the policy directives set by the City Council/City Manager. They also assist subordinate managers in developing and implementing procedures to accomplish departmental goals and objectives.

The City of Glenpool seeks an experienced, strong leader familiar with modern police policies and crime prevention strategies to serve as its next Police Chief. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of emergency medical principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment, as well as applicable laws, ordinances, departmental guidelines, and regulations used to protect the City. The next Police Chief will be able to effectively handle emergencies and stressful situations without it interfering with performance by using appropriate problem-solving skills, self-discipline, and courtesy.

A bachelor’s degree in a related field and seven years of progressively responsible police experience is required. Experience at the assistant chief or chief level is preferred. Union experience is a plus. Applicants must be certified as a police officer by their state. The successful candidate will have up to one year to gain certification if reciprocity is not available. Additionally, Glenpool will give weight to candidates with any of the following certifications: State Police Chief and Command Staff Training, State Jail Certification, First-Aid, CPR Certification, DEA Narcotics Certification, and the FBI National Academy.
