Police Chief – City of Georgetown, Texas

Wrapped around the most beautiful town square in Texas and just 25 miles north of Austin, the City of Georgetown is ready to welcome you with open arms. A city of today brimming with small-town charm, the seat of Williamson County is the northernmost gateway to the gently rolling hills of Central Texas, encompasses nearly 60 square miles, and is home to over 77,000 residents.

The Police Chief plans, directs, and coordinates the activities and operations of the department, developing and administering strategic plans to ensure that police services are efficient, effective, and consistent with organizational values. The successful candidate will report directly to Wayne Nero, the Assistant City Manager of Public Safety, Community Services, HR, and IT. The City of Georgetown is seeking an authentic and approachable servant leader dedicated to enhancing the department’s positive culture focused on faithfully serving the community.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business management, public administration, law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field as well as 10 years of full-time law enforcement experience. Candidates must have spent at least five (5) years of their experience with a municipal law enforcement agency and four (4) years in a command-level position. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Current certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), or a similar certification from another state with the ability to obtain TCOLE certification within one (1) year of hire, is also required. A valid Texas driver’s license must also be obtained within 60 days of employment.

TCOLE certification as a Master Peace Officer and instructor as well as successful completion of executive development training such as the FBI National Academy, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) or equivalent preferred.

While the successful candidate will not be required to establish residency in Georgetown, please note that residency within the city limits is preferred.
