Fond du Lac Police Chief 

The City of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (pop. 43,151) is seeking a Police Chief. This position is open due to the May 2021 retirement of Chief Lamb following a 33-year law enforcement career. Fond du Lac is located at the foot of scenic Lake Winnebago, just an hour away from Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Madison. The City boasts a high quality of life and low cost of living, and is historically named one of the top 20 safest cities in the U.S.

The primary responsibility of the Police Chief is to lead the department through its vision, mission, and goals, and provide law enforcement, safety, and security to the residents of the City of Fond du Lac.

The Police Chief is appointed by and reports to the Police and Fire Commission (PFC) in their official duties as outlined in Wisconsin statutes. The Police Department operating budget for fiscal year 2021 is $11.4 million and the capital budget is $2.1 million. For the first time in the City’s history, the Police Department has achieved accreditation for all aspects of public safety. The 2021 budget will preserve and build upon the multi-year capital investment strategy in training, supplies and equipment to maintain this elite status.   

The salary range for this position is $110,038 - $141,478. A competitive benefits package and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System are included. A vehicle is provided for both business and personal use within Fond du Lac policy parameters. Relocation assistance is available. 

This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with an uncompromised record of increasing responsibility and achievement and a record of Administrative and Law Enforcement Leadership in a comparable jurisdiction. Attendance at the FBI National Academy, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute, PERF's Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), or similar advanced management training is required. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Wisconsin Drivers license and Wisconsin Training and Standards Law Enforcement Certification. Experience working with unions strongly preferred. Must have the proven ability to build cohesion and solid working relationships internally and with other local, state, and federal agencies, the media, non-profit, and private sector organizations to foster harmony and support within the Fond du Lac community.
