Escondido Police Department is supported by 160 sworn and 62 non-sworn staff and an annual operating budget of $54.3 million. The department is organized across four Bureaus:  Investigations, Operations, Professional Standards, and Support Services, with each headed by a Captain or Deputy Director. 

Escondido is seeking a contemporary law enforcement leader, grounded in a community-oriented policing philosophy and energized by the opportunity to help design the future of policing in Escondido. A big-picture strategic thinker with a passion for continuous improvement and delivering quality services, the future Chief will have an impressive career reflecting extensive success with community and organizational engagement, partnership building, and proactive problem-solving. Bachelor’s degree, POST Management Certificate, and ten years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, including three years of management and administrative responsibility, are required. Master’s degree highly desirable.
