The San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) is seeking a passionate and approachable servant-leader committed to building a positive culture within the Police Department focused on faithfully serving the district community to serve as its new Deputy Chief of Police. San Antonio ISD’s Police Department comprised of licensed, sworn peace officers as well as support staff, works throughout the district ensuring a safe learning environment, protecting campuses, and creating a positive influence on schoolchildren. The Deputy Chief of Police serves as the operational manager of the district’s police department, responsible for its direction and leadership. The position reports directly to the Chief of Police in overseeing daily operations, including emergency management plans, records management, and operational/legal compliance with various federal, state, and local laws and statutes. The position also participates in budget preparation and allocation, manages personnel matters and payroll, prepares agenda materials, serves as a liaison to District administration, and regularly reviews department policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for improving productivity.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field with a master’s degree preferred. Four years of equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. Candidates should also have at least 10 years of experience in law enforcement, including 3 years of experience at the Lieutenant rank or higher command level.  This position also requires a minimum of six years of leadership experience that involves developing, directing, and managing employees or teams. At least 15 years of law enforcement experience, including five as a lieutenant or higher, are preferred, as is experience working in a K-12 environment. Additionally, candidates must hold both their Texas Peace Officer license and Master Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or a similar level of certification from another state with the ability to obtain a certificate from TCOLE within one year of hire. The successful candidate must also pass a comprehensive background check including drug testing and medical and psychological screenings.

The annual salary range for this position is $84,525 - $125,824 depending on qualifications and experience.
