The City of Beeville, Texas, is seeking a visionary, team-oriented Police Chief. Beeville is a National Main Street City and the gateway to the Gulf Coast and South Texas. Located 47 miles from Corpus Christi and 105 miles from San Antonio, Beeville has an estimated population of 12,863 residents and is the county seat of Bee County, Texas.  

The Beeville Police Department (BPD) is a law enforcement agency committed to promoting and supporting public safety and protecting the rights and property of residents. Additionally, the BPD operates under the provisions of Local Government Code 143, “State Civil Service,” and has an annual operating budget of $2,333,460. The BPD enjoys an outstanding reputation as a quality police agency and prides itself on being one of the most respected police departments in Texas due to its longstanding commitment to pursuing the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation’s Law Enforcement Recognition Program and its promise to continuous service improvement and community policing.

Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Police Chief performs highly responsible administrative law enforcement efforts. The incumbent is the chief administrative officer of the Beeville Police Department and is therefore responsible for the effective, efficient and responsive administration, oversight and allocation of services and resources, including personnel and equipment approved by the Beeville City Council through the budgetary process.  Additionally, the Chief possesses final authority in all matters of policy, operations, and discipline in the BPD. The chief provides leadership and effective management of activities, measures, programs and services designed to prevent crime, protect lives and protect property, and to maintain and restore order when necessary. Residency within the city limits is highly preferred.  

The City of Beeville offers a total reward package that includes a base salary range of $85,000—$95,000 depending on qualifications and experience; a take home vehicle, and a market competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision insurance; city issued mobile phone; city-issued laptop or similar device; life insurance; and participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (employee deposit 5%, city match 2-1).  

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Police Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a closely related field preferred.  A minimum of 15 years progressively responsible police experience (with at least 5 in a command rank and responsibility) possession of, or the ability to secure a valid Texas Driver’s License, and possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Texas Law Enforcement Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement at the intermediate level or higher, are required. A master’s degree in a closely related field and graduation from an accredited Executive level training program, such as Southern Police Institute or FBI National Academy, or PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) is desired but not required.
