 Minimum  Qualifications

Master's degree in Police Administration, Criminal Justice, or Criminology with specialization in law enforcement and four years of Police Service with experience mid-level or command level experience in a law enforcement agency, work in a      law enforcement training academy or other accredited law enforcement training facility as command staff. The university offers market competitive salary and benefits. Grade EG. Salary Minimum $48,421, Midpoint $66,269, Maximum $85,798.

 Preferred Qualifications 

  • Advanced degree (Doctorate) in criminal justice, public administration or related discipline
  • POST  instructor  certification or  demonstrated instructional  experience
  • Knowledge of the law enforcement training field    (technical needs)
  • Ability to instruct graduate level   courses
  • Experience  in  the  development and/or  delivery of law enforcement training

 Position  Description

The Southern Police Institute (SPI) is looking for a motivated, experienced, and organized individual with a strong commitment to excellent service and quality education and training to fill the position of Associate Director at SPI, on the campus of the University of  Louisville.

 Tasks include: 

Managing, on a daily basis, the delivery of all continuing education activities (educational programs and consulting projects)  for  the Southern Police Institute. This includes supervision and evaluation of staff; design and modification     of offerings (programs and projects); selection and evaluation of instructors and/or consultants; coordination with instructors and review and submission of courses for  state (KLEC)  certification; approval of marketing and  advertising, data entry and analysis; writing technical reports; client/instructor briefings; and other activities related to continuing  education  programs and  projects as appropriate. 

Instructing in the Administrative Officer's Course (fall and spring semesters) and seminars or professional presentations,  as required. 

Creating and overseeing the implementation of multi-year Continuing Education master plan for programmatic activity. 

Providing outreach and establishing/maintaining ongoing relationships with professional organizations, training directors, training program coordinators, trainers, state POSTs/other certification agencies, and commercial organizations that perform law enforcement professional development/training, as well as police training service providers through  networking,  phone,  online,  and conferences.
