Located in North Central Texas, Fort Worth is one of the largest cities in the state and the 13th largest city in the U.S. It is the second-largest city in the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area, which is the fourth most populous metro area in the country.  The county seat of Tarrant County, Fort Worth encompasses 355 miles spread across Tarrant, Denton, Parker, and Wise counties. With a city population of more than 900,000 and more than 2,000,000 in Tarrant County, Fort Worth is one of the fastest-growing large cities in the country. 

The City of Fort Worth operates under a council-manager form of government.  The Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) is led by the Police Chief who is appointed by the City Manager and reports to the Deputy City Manager and consists of three bureaus: Patrol, Support, and Finance/Personnel.  The City of Fort Worth seeks an inspirational servant-leader who places the highest priority on serving the needs of the community to become the next Police Chief. The successful candidate will be a committed, decisive, and service-oriented law enforcement professional who will lead the department with integrity and humility. 

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or a closely related field; a master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of 15 years of law enforcement experience, with at least five years of command/executive level experience (chief command level or within 1 or 2 levels in the organization from the chief commander), in a large urban city, and advanced law enforcement education and training such as the FBI National Academy, PERF's Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), or similar programs are required. The chosen candidate must be a Certified Police Officer in the State of Texas or be able to obtain certification within six months of hire.
