Sheryl Goldstein, JD, PERF's new Director of Program Development, served as the Director of the Baltimore, Maryland Mayor's Office on Criminal Justice from February 2007 through June 2012. She was responsible for developing and coordinating Baltimore City's criminal and juvenile justice strategies; forming partnerships with state and federal agencies, community groups and non-profit organizations to address crime and criminal justice issues; managing the City's Crime Camera program; and, fundraising to support Baltimore's public safety initiatives. Goldstein was instrumental in developing and implementing Baltimore's gun violence reduction strategy and reforming the criminal justice system's response to rape and sexual assault. Ms. Goldstein started her career as a trial lawyer, focusing her practice on criminal litigation in both state and federal courts. In 1998, she began to pursue a career in public service. She worked for the Center for Court Innovation, a public-private partnership with the New York State Unified Court System that is dedicated to enhancing the performance of courts and promoting public trust in the justice system. In 2000, she took a one year leave of absence to perform legal reform work in Kosovo. In 2001, she returned to Baltimore and served as Criminal Justice Coordinator to Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. Ms. Goldstein earned her BA from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and received her Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.
